As labour mobility continues to be a priority, regulators across Canada are under increased pressure to ensure that professional movement between jurisdictions is not hindered by unnecessary barriers. While progress has been made in harmonizing registration requirements, such as exams, differences in scope of practice remain a persistent challenge.
This virtual session will explore a case study and through interactive discussions, participants will examine the structural and regulatory issues that contribute to labour mobility challenges and reflect on similar challenges within their own professions.
Hosted by the ‘Community of Practice: Entry to Practice & Registration’ co-leads:
● Melanie Therrien, Head of Licensing at the Alberta Insurance Council
● Amit Banerjee, Director, Registration at The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
This session explores a key regulatory theme in the Canadian context, built around a case study and structured for active participant engagement.
Who should attend?

In today’s regulatory environment, assessing and responding to professional conduct concerns requires careful attention to context, relationships, and risk. This session explores how regulators navigate dual relationships, conflicts of interest, and boundary issues, particularly in close-knit or rural communities where personal and professional roles often intersect. Through a case study and facilitated discussion, participants will reflect on real-world challenges and develop strategies for conducting fair, effective, and proportionate investigations.
