In the world of professional regulation, where safeguarding the public requires clear standards and processes for identifying and addressing misconduct, social media can be a thorny issue for regulators. By nature, social media interactions are fueled by freedom of expression, but that freedom can easily become abused if a registrant is not diligent in balancing it with professionalism.

In a nod to the legendary TV game show Jeopardy, the CNAR 2024 Annual National Conference featured an interactive session titled “Social Media Jeopardy,” hosted by Robin McKechney. Fictional conduct cases about social media use were discussed by an expert panel comprising three contestants: Zimra Yetnikoff from the fictional regulatory body CANTDO; Harry Cayton from the fictional regulatory body CANDO; and the audience, who played the role of the public member. CNAR produced an eBook based on the session to provide a summary of the considerations raised in the panel discussion for each case, followed by a reflection tool that regulators can use individually or in team discussions.
