CNAR 2020: Identifying and Responding to Mental Health Issues

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How mental health issues may not only impact whether and how someone meets professional and employment requirements, but also how they interact with the regulator.

  • To get a better understanding how regulatory processes can exacerbate existing mental health conditions.

  • When registration applications, complaint investigations, quality assurance processes and staffing arrangements may require human rights accommodation.


Join us at this virtual workshop on October 23rd, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m ET to learn how to support the mental health and psychological safety of those who do the work of the regulator.


Who Should Attend?

Individuals who are seeking to gain a better understanding or the many ways in which issues of mental health can/are significantly impact the work of the regulator. Anyone involved in regulation who is wanting to increase their knowledge and tool set to help them to properly identify and respond to mental health issues in their interactions with applicants, registrants, and staff (including council and committee members).


What Topics Will Be Covered?

  • An overview of key mental health conditions

  • The impact certain mental health issues can have on regulatory processes, including employment

  • arrangements

  • What accommodation looks like and what legal principles apply to regulators’ work

  • What it means to be “trauma informed” and how do you apply this to your processes

  • Understanding various forms of bias and how you can minimize its impact on your work

  • How we measure psychological safety in the workplace and manage it effectively

  • Policy and procedure applications to address some of the above issues

This workshop will draw on the collective experience and expertise of the speakers, using a variety of tools including didactic presentation, case examples. Join us for an enriching session of learning and sharing!
